New Delhi: The number of cyber-attacks on the Indian healthcare industry ranked second globally, with 7.7 per cent of all incidents in this sector seen in the country in 2021, cybersecurity intelligence firm CloudSEK said on Tuesday.
According to CloudSEK’s report on the “Rise of Cyber Attacks on the Global Healthcare Industry”, the US healthcare industry faced 28% of all global attacks.
“India recorded the second highest number of attacks, totaling 7.7 per cent of the total attacks on the healthcare industry in 2021,” the report said.
According to the report, 7.7 percent of cyber attacks in the Indian healthcare industry translate to more than 71 lakh records.
CloudSEK is among the entities that provide intelligence on cyber threats to the Indian cyber security watchdog CERTin.
According to the company, technological advancements in the healthcare industry such as remote health monitoring, electronic health records, and the Internet of Things (IoT) have provided cybercriminals with more opportunities to attack the sector.
Data collected by CloudSEK shows that there were already 1.87 lakh records in the first four months of 2022.
The attack dynamics appears to have changed in 2022 at the global level. Australia was the worst affected country with around 70 crore record followed by Thailand which faced more than 10 crore record in the first four months of 2022, according to the report.
